Weekly Review Template: The Habit That Changes Everything

Dayze TeamDayze Team
January 26, 20265 min read

The most productive people share one habit: the weekly review.

30 minutes per week can transform your productivity, clarity, and progress toward goals. Here's exactly how to do it.

What Is a Weekly Review?

A weekly review is a regular practice of:

  • Looking back at the past week
  • Processing everything in your system
  • Planning the week ahead
  • Realigning with your goals

Think of it as a reset button that keeps you on track.

The Complete Weekly Review Template

Part 1: Clear Your Mind (5 minutes)

Brain dump everything:

Write down anything on your mind:

  • Tasks you forgot
  • Ideas you had
  • Worries nagging you
  • Things you need to do
  • People you need to contact

Get it all out of your head and onto paper.

Part 2: Review Last Week (10 minutes)

Calendar Review:

  • What meetings did you have?
  • What events occurred?
  • Any follow-ups needed?
  • What can you learn from how you spent time?

Task Review:

  • What got done? ✓
  • What didn't get done?
  • What needs to roll over?
  • What can be deleted?

Wins and Lessons:

  • What went well this week?
  • What didn't go well?
  • What did you learn?
  • What would you do differently?

Part 3: Review Your Lists (5 minutes)

Go through all your lists:

  • Inbox (email, messages)
  • Todo list
  • Project lists
  • Waiting for list
  • Someday/maybe list
  • Reading list
  • Goals list

Update, process, organize.

Part 4: Plan Next Week (10 minutes)

  • What's already scheduled?
  • What needs to be scheduled?
  • Any conflicts to resolve?

When to Do Your Weekly Review

Best Times

  • Sunday evening — Prepare for the week ahead
  • Friday afternoon — Close out the work week
  • Saturday morning — Relaxed reflection time

What Matters Most

Pick a time and protect it:

  • Same time each week
  • Block it in your calendar
  • Treat it as non-negotiable
  • Environment that supports focus

Tracking Progress Over Time

Monthly Patterns

After 4 weekly reviews, look for patterns:

  • What goals keep moving forward?
  • What keeps getting postponed?
  • What time of week is most productive?
  • What recurring obstacles appear?

Quarterly Review

Every 13 weeks, do a deeper review:

  • Progress on big goals
  • Adjustments needed
  • New goals to add
  • Old goals to retire

Annual Connection

Weekly reviews feed into your annual review:

  • 52 weeks of data
  • Clear picture of the year
  • Evidence for reflection

Common Mistakes

1. Skipping When Busy

"I don't have time for a weekly review!"

That's exactly when you need it most. Even 10 minutes helps.

2. Making It Too Long

If it takes hours, you won't do it. Keep it to 30 minutes or less.

3. Only Looking Back

Review isn't just reflection—it's planning. Balance both.

4. Not Being Honest

Glossing over failures prevents learning. Be truthful with yourself.

5. Not Following Through

A review without action is just journaling. Execute on what you plan.

The Compound Effect

One weekly review = small improvement.

52 weekly reviews = transformed year.

260 weekly reviews (5 years) = different life.

The habit compounds. Every week you review, you course-correct a little. Those corrections add up.

This week will have 7 days. 168 hours.

How will you spend them?

A weekly review ensures you spend them intentionally.
