Prince Andrew

Prince Andrew, Duke of York, is a member of the British Royal Family and the third child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. He served in the Royal Navy during the Falklands War as a helicopter pilot. Andrew was a longtime friend of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Virginia Giuffre alleged that Epstein trafficked her to Andrew on three occasions when she was 17 years old, including at Maxwell's London home, Epstein's Manhattan mansion, and Epstein's private island. A photograph of Andrew with his arm around Giuffre's waist, taken at Maxwell's London home in 2001, became one of the defining images of the scandal. In a widely criticized BBC Newsnight interview in November 2019, Andrew denied the allegations and claimed he could not have been at a particular nightclub because he was at a Pizza Express in Woking. In 2022, Andrew settled Giuffre's civil lawsuit for an undisclosed sum, estimated at £12 million, while admitting no wrongdoing. He was stripped of his military titles and royal patronages by Queen Elizabeth II in January 2022.

Andrew's disastrous BBC Newsnight interview in November 2019 is considered one of the worst public relations performances in royal history. He claimed he had a medical condition that prevented him from sweating, contradicting Giuffre's testimony. The "Pizza Express in Woking" defense became a widely mocked meme. Queen Elizabeth reportedly paid a portion of the £12 million settlement from her private funds.
