George Mitchell

George John Mitchell Jr. was an American politician, diplomat, and businessman who served as a U.S. Senator from Maine from 1980 to 1995 and as Senate Majority Leader from 1989 to 1995. He played a central role in the Northern Ireland peace process and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Virginia Giuffre named Mitchell in sealed depositions as someone she was directed to have sexual contact with by Epstein, an allegation Mitchell denied through his attorneys. He acknowledged knowing Epstein but said he had never been to Epstein's island or residences other than his Manhattan apartment for meetings related to Epstein's philanthropic interests.

Son of a Lebanese-American janitor and an Irish-American textile worker. Worked his way through Bowdoin College and Georgetown University Law Center.

Mitchell chaired the peace negotiations that led to the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland. He later served as U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace. Named in Giuffre depositions.

First marriage to Sally Heath (divorced). Married Heather MacLachlan in 2012. One daughter from first marriage, one from second.
