Raised in a politically engaged family, Sophie Scholl initially participated in the Hitler Youth but grew critical of the Nazi regime. She was influenced by philosophy and theology, which shaped her anti-Nazi convictions.

Scholl's initial involvement with the Hitler Youth was typical for her age, but she soon became disillusioned with its ideology. The White Rose leaflets were smuggled out of Germany and air-dropped over the country by Allied forces after her death. Numerous institutions, including schools and streets, have been named in honor of Sophie and Hans Scholl. Her story has been the subject of several films, most notably the Oscar-nominated 'Sophie Scholl – The Final Days'.

Sophie Scholl was the daughter of Robert and Magdalena Scholl and had five siblings, including her brother Hans, who was also a prominent member of the White Rose and was executed with her. She was not married and had no children.
