Before becoming a judge, Ginsburg was a professor at Rutgers Law School and Columbia Law School, teaching civil procedure. She also worked as an advocate for the American Civil Liberties Union, arguing several cases before the Supreme Court.
Ginsburg was the first Jewish woman and the second woman to serve on the Supreme Court. She became known as 'Notorious RBG' later in her career, a play on the rapper Notorious B.I.G. She co-authored a book with Swedish jurist Anders Bruzelius.
She was married to Martin D. Ginsburg for over 50 years, until his death in 2010. They had two children, Jane and James.
