Kim Carnes

Kim Carnes (born July 20, 1945) is an American singer-songwriter. She began writing and performing in the 1960s Los Angeles folk scene before breaking through as a solo artist. Her raspy vocals on "Bette Davis Eyes" topped the Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks in 1981 and won the Grammy for Record of the Year. She has written songs recorded by Kenny Rogers, Barbra Streisand, and others.

Carnes was born in Los Angeles and performed in folk clubs in the 1960s. She joined the New Christy Minstrels and sang backup for artists including Kenny Rogers before launching her solo career.
