Jes Staley

James Edward Staley, known as Jes Staley, is an American banker who served as CEO of Barclays from December 2015 to November 2021. He resigned after a regulatory investigation found he had mischaracterized his close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. The investigation by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) revealed that Staley and Epstein exchanged approximately 1,200 emails between 2008 and 2012. The relationship included Staley visiting Epstein at his Palm Beach home, on his Caribbean island, and at the Metropolitan Correctional Center while Epstein was incarcerated. Prior to Barclays, Staley was a senior executive at JPMorgan Chase, where he first met Epstein. JPMorgan later paid $290 million to settle claims that it facilitated Epstein's sex trafficking through its banking services, with Staley's relationship cited as a key factor.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts. Graduated from Bowdoin College in Maine. Spent most of his career at JPMorgan Chase, rising to head of its private banking and asset management divisions.

The 1,200+ emails between Staley and Epstein reportedly included Epstein sending Staley photographs of young women. Staley visited Epstein while he was incarcerated. His departure from Barclays made him one of the highest-profile banking executives to lose their job over Epstein ties.
