George Soros

George Soros is a Hungarian-American investor and philanthropist known for founding Soros Fund Management and for his extensive democracy and human-rights philanthropy through the Open Society Foundations. He survived Nazi-occupied Hungary, studied at the London School of Economics, moved to New York in 1956, and became one of the most influential macro investors of the late 20th century.

Born in Budapest in 1930, Soros survived Nazi occupation as a child. After the war, he emigrated to the United Kingdom, studied at the London School of Economics under Karl Popper, and worked in merchant banks in London before relocating to New York in 1956.

Known as The Man Who Broke the Bank of England for his 1992 short against the British pound; estimated to have donated tens of billions of dollars to philanthropic causes via Open Society Foundations.

George Soros was born to Tivadar and Erzsebet Soros. He has been married three times and has five children, including Alexander Soros, who became chair of Open Society Foundations in 2023.
